Summer Staff Personnel PoliciesA Commitment to Christian Faith Summer staff employees must agree to the basic evangelical statement of faith listed below. Twin Rocks is a Friends - or Quaker - camp, however Twin Rocks actively recruits Christians from other evangelical Christian denominations. Several denominational backgrounds are typically represented on a summer staff team. A willingness to humbly learn from each other and build a loving and accepting community, despite potential differences, is essential.
A Commitment to Community Living: Twin Rocks staff will demonstrate a lifestyle that excludes the possession or use of non-medical drugs, alcohol, tobacco, obscene or pornographic articles or literature and immoral sexual behavior.
A Commitment to Pursue the Goals of the Summer Staff Program: Summer staff agree to pursue the goals of the Twin Rocks Friends Camp's Summer Staff Program as listed below: Service: Learning from Christ's example to serve others humbly through daily work assignments. Discipleship and Spiritual Growth: Growing in relationship with God through personal quiet times, group worship and sharing, accountability groups and other spiritual disciplines that are a part of the summer program. Community: Building a Christ-centered, inclusive, caring community among the staff. Working to preserve the bond of peace while sharing the joys and pains of working, worshipping, living and playing with peers. Memory Making: Growing close in Godly friendships with other staff. Having fun, relaxing, playing, and making incredible memories. Leadership Development: Exploring the question "What makes a Christ-like leader?" as staff are challenged with leadership roles ranging from worship leader and camp counselor to late shift and work crew "captain."
An "All-Out" Summer Commitment: Committing to be a member of summer staff is much more than committing to working eleven weeks at Twin Rocks Friends Camp. Summer staff members wholly commit their summer to serve, work, live, play, worship and grow together. "Non-work" summer staff activities (such as worship, accountability groups, initiative games and Bible studies) will monopolize almost all of a staff member's "free" time during much of each week. Involvement in these activities is an important part of the commitment and experience of being a Twin Rocks summer staff team member. Because the summer staff program demands an "all out" summer commitment, Twin Rocks reserves the right to be a staff member's only summer commitment (no other part-time jobs, ministries, volunteer activities, correspondence or local college courses, etc.) Any exceptions to this rule must be negotiated before hire. One "weekend" will be available to each staff member to attend once-in-a-lifetime family or school events such as graduations and weddings. Requests for this weekend must be made and negotiated before hire.
A Commitment to Inclusive Relationships: Summer staff agree to actively engage in inclusive, caring relationships with all other staff members. Exclusive "clique" types of relationships are not a part of our staff. For the same reason summer staff members agree not to pursue romantic relationships of any kind with other staff members while on summer staff.
A Commitment to Modesty: Summer staff team members commit to honoring one another by maintaining a high standard of modesty - in dress, talk and behavior - within the team. Twin Rocks desires to support Summer Staff in their pursuit of modesty and growth by providing appropriate space on camp for private male-only and female-only use (for example Summer Staff laundry room and private bed and bathrooms areas.) Twin Rocks provides these spaces to promote a safe and comfortable environment for staff to “let their hair down” and to help minimize potential stumbling blocks or distractions. Summer Staff also commit to treating members of the opposite gender as siblings in Christ for the duration of the summer and strive to minimize any form of physical and emotional contact that may lead to unacceptable conduct and behaviors. Commitment to a TV and Movie-Free Summer: Summer staff agree to give up television and movies for the summer as a "fast" of sorts, focusing on mental purity and Philippians 4:8. The commitment to a TV and movie-free summer allows staff more time to focus on building relationships during the summer's limited free time.
