SABBATH BY THE SEA LEADERS
Craig Davis, Pastor of Spiritual Formation at Rose Drive Friends Church in Yorba Linda, California, oversees Sabbath by the Sea. Craig met and married his wife Debbie while both were studying Christian Ministry at Barclay College. Their first call to serve in the church came in 1987 to become Youth Pastor at Friendswood Friends Church, Texas. Craig served on the team at Friendswood Friends for 19 years, as he an Debbie added Justin, Ashley and Brandon to their family.
In 1999, Craig completed a certificate program in Spiritual Direction at San Francisco Theological Seminary. That opened new opportunities with Youth Specialties serving as a conference and retreat spiritual director, as well as leading Craig to Sabbath by the Sea. In 2006, Craig and his family moved to Yorba Linda, California where Craig began serving at Rose Drive Friends Church as College Pastor. After 5 years in that role, his role changed to Pastor of Spiritual Formation, which continues through today. Most recently, Craig has networked with Soul Shepherding, a ministry to shepherd Pastors and others who seek Spiritual Direction. He teaches and supervises new Spiritual Directors in Soul Shepherding’s pilot program in Spiritual Direction. He has attended and served as a Spiritual Director at Sabbath by the Sea 8 different years. His 3 children are married now, and most importantly he enjoys time with his 4 year old grandson, Tommy.
Rosalie Hamman has been serving in ministry all her adult life, including foreign missions, church planting, denominational pastoral care, eldership, and coaching. She is currently working with Equipping Leader Ministries as the Director of Curriculum & Leadership. Professionally, she has worked as a bilingual teacher and program developer in Adult Education for the past 13 years. Her greatest passion is loving, coaching, and equipping young adults. Rosalie has been married to Dave since 1985 and has two grown sons, one daughter, two daughters-in-law and a beautiful new granddaughter named Harper Rae.
Hank Helsabeck recently retired from a 35-year calling at George Fox University, where he was a professor and academic dean. For several years, he also worked alongside the Director of Prayer Ministries for the Navigators where he was involved with prayer retreats as well as co-authoring a book on praying from God’s heart. Throughout these years Hank has experienced a significant number of mentoring relationships. He is a good listener. Hank holds a Ph.D. from the University of Missouri. He is also married to Jo Helsabeck.
After her adult conversion to Christianity, Jo Helsabeck began a journey to know God and to make Him known to others. Serving in volunteer positions in church, responding to God’s call to ministry, deciding to go to seminary late in middle age, and coming alongside others on their spiritual journeys have been her response to the deep hunger for God He has placed in her heart. Jo holds a Master’s degree from the University of Missouri, a Bachelor’s from Culver-Stockton College, and a Certification as a spiritual director from George Fox Evangelical Seminary. She’s served as Pastor of Outreach Ministries and Pastor of Women’s Ministries at Newberg Friends Church, participated in 12-step recovery programs for 20+ years, provided spiritual direction since 2004, and co-led weeks at Sabbath by the Sea since 2009.
Stan Leach has spent many years serving and loving the Church as youth pastor, missionary, church planter, ministry coach and most recently as Superintendent of Evangelical Friends Church Southwest. In the Spring of 2018, Stan began a new venture, “Equipping Leader Ministries, Inc.,” driven by his passion to help local churches prepare for the next wave of ministry by helping pastors connect to their deepest calling – being an equipper. In addition to his experience, Stan has gifts in leadership, discernment, coaching, encouraging and modeling a life of discipleship that strives to ask the question, “What does God want me to do?” and then “What am I going to do about it?” Stan has been married to Sandi for 37 years, has three grown daughters, and 5 grandchildren.
LaNeal Miller facilitates Christian spiritual formation groups in her local church and walks alongside many individuals as they explore their life with God. She is willing to explore questions of faith which encourage a loving, vibrant, close relationship with God. Providing unhurried space and friendship, along with real life application for the journey is her privilege and joy. Her professional background includes teaching children in public and private school settings, curriculum development, and strategic mentoring for classroom teachers. Her vocational direction is now one of ministry in the context of supporting spiritual formation for every age group. This path of walking with others led to her current enrollment in the Renovaré Institute for Christian Spiritual Formation. She lives in Vancouver, Washington, with her husband of 36 years, Dana.
Tresa Redford is the new Family Life Pastor at Meridian Friends Church in Meridian, Idaho. With 25 years of ministry at MFC under her belt, alongside her pastor husband Ken, she recently came on staff and has begun a new adventure ministering to families by organizing children’s ministries, women’s ministries, and finding ways to strengthen marriages and help parents. Tresa graduated from George Fox University in 1991 with a degree in Christian Educational Ministries and has spent the last 20+ years being a stay-at-home mom. She and Ken have been married for 30 years, raised two children who are both now married, and are enjoying figuring out the empty nest life.
Chris Steiger has served in pastoral ministry for more than 40 years, including stints as a senior pastor in Arizona, a church planter in southern California, and 20 years at Rose Drive Friends Church in Yorba Linda, California, where he was Associate Pastor and then Pastor of Operations and Congregational Care. Through his years in ministry he has led a number of prayer retreats and been involved in both Soul Care and Life Transformation groups. He is a trained ministry coach and he currently serves as a financial coach to pastors and missionaries. Chris and his wife, Karen, have three adult sons, who along with their wives have brought them the joy of five grandchildren. He enjoys fishing, home improvement projects, and watching grandkids.
WORSHIP MUSIC LEADER
Mauri Macy served at Newberg Friends Church as pastor of worship ministries for more than 20 years. He has led the worship singing in most of the “by-the-sea” January retreats. Besides long-time church music ministry, Mauri has co-produced/recorded music for the well-known children’s song series, Wee Sing. Comfortable with traditional, contemporary and contemplative songs, he places a high value on joining with others in worship through God’s creation and wonderful gift to us—music.
